If you find yourself easily offended, it may be a sign of a prideful spirit holding you back. The enemy uses offense as a tool to grip your heart and distract you from God’s purpose for your life. The enemy knows that once you break free, he will no longer be able to hinder the blessings and destiny God has for you.
Understanding the Spirit of Offense
To discern how the spirit of offense gains a foothold, let’s examine the word "offend."
Definition: A stumbling block, something that causes one to fall.
Hebrew: Miksol (mik-shole), meaning an obstacle or occasion for stumbling.
In Ezekiel 14, God confronts the idols in the hearts of Israel. He warns against seeking prophets or man-made solutions before seeking Him. When we put our trust in people instead of God, we create idols, and those idols lead to deception.
“Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity.” - Eze 14:3 (NKJV)
Breaking the Cycle
The spirit of offense often enters when we rely on human validation, approval, or solutions instead of turning to God. This misplaced trust becomes a stumbling block, leading us into pride and hurt.
The solution? Go to God first in all things. Trust Him fully, allowing Him to refine your heart and remove anything hindering your walk with Him.
Summary
Your faith determines where you place your trust. Is it in people or in the Lord? God desires to be your first and only source of guidance. Breaking free from offense requires humility, repentance, and reliance on Him alone.
“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.” - Prov 29:25 (NKJV)
